WHO WE ARE
Climanet GR-CY (Climate Neutrality Network of the cities of Greece & Cyprus) is an important legal entity of local government. Established as a European Territorial Cooperation Group – Urban Non-Profit Company. The seat of the Group, after a unanimous decision, was designated Athens, specifically the seat of the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE).
Founding members of the Network are seven pioneers of OTAs of the first degree from Greece and Cyprus: the Municipalities of Athens, Thessaloniki, Ioanniton, Kalamata, Kozani, Trikala and Limassol. The common feature of these cities is that they have already prepared and approved local climate neutrality agreements, with the aim of green transition.
Our goal
The main purpose of the company is the cooperation to accelerate the transition of cities to climate neutrality, as well as their digital transformation by 2030.Our action is fully in line with the European Mission for the “100 Climate Neutral and Smart Cities”.
We develop uniform standards, sustainable models and implementing policies for urban shielding against risks from extreme natural phenomena (such as heatwaves, droughts, forest and urban fires, rapid rainfall). We protect the urban fabric and the extra-urban environment, aiming to stop the vicious cycle of the increased energy burden (such as the heat island effect) leading to new CO2 emissions and exacerbate the climate disorder.
Through multi-level governance, we seek to activate all levels of the public, private, academic and social sectors. We join forces to promote new type investments and realize the European Union’s climate goals.
